case study

Test optimization using basic testing principles

  Role

   Senior Test Analyst

  Field

  Project in the automotive industry

Assignment from the client

The primary assignment was to shorten the release cycles during the testing phase and increase testing efficiency with the existing capacities within the team. Additionally, a review of the existing manual and automated testing solutions and processes was conducted.

Implementation

We conducted a review of the existing manual (exploratory) testing processes, control lists and test suites documented in Codebeamer and analyzed the existing automated testing solution utilizing Ranorex Studio and Jenkins.  As a result, we have identified several overlaps and inefficiencies and proposed improvements leading to better focus the assigned testing capacities.

We also defined and implemented new metrics for quality monitoring, ensuring comprehensive coverage of critical functionalities.

As a last step, we created and customized a RACI (Responsible, Accountable, Consulted, and Informed) matrix to clearly define roles and responsibilities within the testing team, enhancing collaboration and accountability and established a Service Level Agreement (SLA) to streamline and improve daily operations for the testing teams.

Technologies

    • The project utilizes Ranorex Studio
    • Codebeamer
    • Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
    • Jenkins
    • PowerBI

Results:

The implementation of the reviewed and enhanced testing processes resulted in significantly shortened release cycles. The introduction of new metrics and the SLA improved the efficiency and daily operations of the testers. By leveraging the RACI matrix, the clarity in roles and responsibilities was increased, leading to better collaboration and communication within the team. Overall, the project successfully met its primary, and also the secondary targets, enhancing the quality and efficiency of the application testing process.
